Ameen Jan
Managing Director

Ameen Jan is the founder and Managing Director of Jan Consulting. He has worked over the past fifteen years as a consultant to governments, international organisations and major corporations on strategy and policy. His regional experience spans Afghanistan, Bangladesh, the Black Sea region, the Caribbean region, Central Africa, Nigeria, North Africa, Pakistan, Russia, Southeast Asia, Somalia, and Sudan.

Ameen led the UK Prime Minister's Strategy Unit's review of Countries at Risk of Instability from 2003 to 2005, where he developed whole-of-government approaches for the UK in conflict prevention and peace building. This major cross-government initiative addressed the interconnections between security, stability and development and identified comprehensive approaches to peace and stability involving defense, diplomacy, development, and other levers of influence. In this role he was instrumental in developing a cross-government strategy process for conflict-affected countries and regions that has increasingly been adopted by the UK government and others.

Prior to the Prime Minister's Strategy Unit, Ameen was a consultant with McKinsey & Company in London (2001 to 2003), a senior associate at the International Peace Academy in New York (1994 to 1999) where he advised the UN and African regional organisations on strategy in conflict affected environments, and a policy advisor at the United Nations Operation in Somalia and UNDP (1993 to 1994). He has published extensively in a wide range of newspapers and academic journals and regularly provides expert commentary in the international broadcast media.

Ameen received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University, his Master’s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, and his MBA from Stanford University. His primary and secondary schooling was in Pakistan.
